Built for extreme loads — large mill drive powered by our belt technology

Why you need an Optibelt ribbed belt for a mill drive

Mill drives often have to transmit a lot of power – in a small space.

A V-ribbed belt:

  • combines the flexibility of a flat belt
  • with the high power transmission of a V-belt

Ideal for compact, powerful drives.

The numerous ribs give the ribbed belt a large contact surface with the pulley.

Advantages:

  • Less slippage
  • Smoother running
  • High efficiency (over 95%)

This is particularly important in mills, as the machines often run under high loads.

Mills (grain, animal feed, wood, etc.) are subject to harsh conditions:

  • Dust
  • Fine particles
  • Temperature fluctuations

Optibelt ribbed belts are designed to operate reliably under these conditions and not wear out prematurely.

Mills often generate vibrations due to grinding or hammering mechanisms. Ribbed belts dampen these vibrations, so that the drive:

  • runs more smoothly
  • protects bearings and shafts
  • requires less maintenance

Ribbed belts can:

  • run on smaller pulleys
  • compensate for slight misalignments

This allows mills to be designed in a more compact and cost-effective manner.

Optibelt is known for:

  • robust materials
  • temperature- and wear-resistant rubber compounds

This reduces downtime – which is very important in milling technology.

Mill Drive success story

Mill Drive success story
Industry: Food & Beverage
Application: Flour milling
Product: optibelt OMEGA RB

A large food processing mill was experiencing belt failures on the mill drives after only 1000 hours. The back bend idler on the drive was causing the previous belts to delaminate over time.

The optibelt OMEGA RB was used as a direct replacement on the drive. The superior one piece construction caused the belt life to double to over 2000 hours. This led to an annual cost savings of approximately $750 per machine!
