Gotland lies about 90 kilometres off the coast of Sweden and covers an area of around 3,000 square kilometres, making it the largest island in the Baltic Sea. On the eastern side of the island lies the industrial district of Slite, which is the home of Cementa, one of the most modern cement works in Europe.
The central feature of the cement works is a single-shaft, 25-tonne mammoth crusher that breaks up blocks of stone from the quarry using 112 hammers, each weighing 135 kilograms. The crusher was installed in 1978 and set in operation one year later...
Optibelt started working in Sweden back in the 1960s.
Today, its Swedish subsidiary Optibelt Skandinaviska AB, with its sales office in Malmö, is responsible for the whole of Scandinavia, including Iceland.
Our work in Sweden – especially the cooperation with Swedish mining company LKAB – made a significant contribution to the breakthrough of our optibelt RED POWER V-belt. In Kiruna, in the extreme north of Sweden, LKAB operates the largest iron ore mine in Europe. In the 1990s, LKAB tested the then new RED POWER V-belts. The tests showed that the RED POWER achieved a much longer service life than conventional belts and that it even reduced energy consumption.
The RED POWER thus became a huge success in Scandinavia before it established itself in Germany and the rest of the world.

Stels, Russia’s largest bicycle manufacturer, is located in the Russian city of Brjansk. Stels, together with Optibelt as development partner for drive systems, produce snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) that are much in demand worldwide.
Snowmobiles are Stels’ latest business venture, a line of business autonomously developed from design, through technical implementation and down to manufacture. It is quite understandable therefore that component quality is top priority with Stels and that their drive belts are made by Optibelt.
In 2013 Optibelt opened a second location in Russia, Yekaterinburg. Yekaterinburg, located in the Urals with its heavy industry, is augmenting Moscow, the central logistics hub for the former states of the Soviet Union. The two Optibelt Russia sales centres are situated 1800 kilometres apart in the largest country in the world.
It is not possible to simply transfer solutions proven successful in the West to Russian realities unchanged. A willingness to accept different mentalities and new regulations and cultural tact in terms of our approach to target groups are of the essence.

Russia is vast – both geographically and economically. A market with mind-boggling potential, rich in resources and with a soul of its own. We dedicate February to our Russian sales company and its customers.
Optibelt launched its own sales company named ORU in Moscow in 2006. We had, however, already established Russian sales contacts even in Soviet Union times. The foundations for ongoing developments in Russia were laid after the system changed in the nineties.
At the PV Live! in Hannover we had the opportunity to present our Truck Power range. Find out more about our company, the different types of belts and the Cool Power product group (drive belts for transport refrigeration) in this interview.
For our Swedish colleagues the Automässan in Gothenburg last week was a great success! Nowhere else in the Nordic region are so many suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers and experts from the automotive industry represented.
With our Optibelt seminars, we will again be laying the building blocks for professional success in 2020. The seminars are aimed at new, but also experienced employees from the technical trade, original equipment manufacturers, maintenance personnel and users: fitters, purchasers, technicians/engineers and technically interested parties.
