- Manufacturer of heavy duty belt drives expands its product palette in the segments of polyurethane belts and metal products
- 2015: New manufacturing plants in the Netherlands and new sales offices in New Zealand and Turkey
Höxter, 03 September 2015. As in previous years, the Arntz OPTIBELT Group reported year-on-year growth in revenues for 2014, achieving another sales record at 220 million euros. Going forward, the manufacturer of heavy duty drive belts expects the ongoing financial year to deliver a stable performance. “Having topped the previous year's record in 2014, we have every intention to maintain the high level or even exceed it,” said CEO Reinhold Mühlbeyer. “Our mid-year result of 136.7 million euros (by the end of July 2015) marks a slight year-on-year increase.”
New Sales Offices in New Zealand and Turkey
The Arntz OPTIBELT Group is growing steadily. In a bid to meet strong demand in South-Eastern Europe under its own steam, OPTIBELT opened a new branch in Istanbul in August. The new subsidiary OPTIBELT Güç Aktarma - OPTIBELT Power Transmission Turkey (OTR) will handle the regional marketing with its own sales team, management and warehouse. The high quality of OPTIBELT products is already well known in the region, and sales expectations are high as a result.
In July, the retroactive takeover of Tranz Corp., a New Zealand-based specialist for spare parts for drive elements was finalised. The company's product range of heavy duty belts, wheels, bearings, chains, transmissions and variator drives perfectly complements the product portfolio of OPTIBELT.
OPTIBELT also expanded its distribution in Latin America in recent years by opening proprietary branch offices in Columbia (2014) and Brazil (2013). Moreover, the year 2014 saw the opening of an OPTIBELT branch in Bangkok, Thailand. Two years ago, the company also reinforced its sales structures in the United States and in Russia.
New Manufacturing Site in the Netherlands
In another new development in 2015, OPTIBELT bought into the production of mechanical drive components in the metal products area by taking over the Dutch company Walk. The current product spectrum of Walk includes assembly units and gear boxes, (special) lock washers and rack rails, sprocket wheels and gear wheels, as well as standard drive components. With its modern means of production and its high technical competence, OPTIBELT-Walk offers support in drive issues and drive arrangements. In-house CAD workstations permit 3D renderings of complex customer drawings.
OPTIBELT has consistently expanded its competence in the segments of drive belts and metal products, and is now in a position to efficiently provide drive solutions of every sort for special purpose engineering, packaging, transport and conveyor technology as a one-stop shop.
The Arntz OPTIBELT Group operates eight production sites in Europe and Asia, including the headquarters in Höxter, where it recently invested c. 10 million euros in a new logistics warehouse. The company now maintains a global presence with proprietary sales and logistics sites. Formed as a family business 143 years ago, it now has a workforce of around 1,900 employees.
Expansion of Existing Manufacturing Sites in Europe
The financial year concluded also focused on the expansion or extension of the manufacturing plants in Europe. Taking a forward-looking approach to the market requirements of tomorrow, the Arntz OPTIBELT Group expanded its locations in the Irish town of Letterkenny – where a new manufacturing plant for the production of polyurethane toothed belt will start operating in 2015 – and in the Romanian town of Tautii Magheraus. The building capacities in Romania will be more than doubled to c. 10,000 square metres, and a new agitator, among other facilities, will start operating here by the end of the year.
New Products in the High-Performance Drive Belt Segment
At the Hanover Trade Fair, OPTIBELT presented not one but two new belts. In addition to the heavy-duty belt series “Conveyor Power,” specifically designed for conveying systems, the “Delta Chain Carbon” became the second heavy-duty toothed belt made of polyurethane to be put on the market.
The innovative polyurethane belts deliver a power transmission increase of up to 100 % compared to heavy-duty toothed belts made of rubber. The use of an innovative combination of materials permits a considerable reduction in the width of power drives. It also permits the construction of drives with very high torques. Moreover, the carbon cord offers a high-powered alternative to drives using roller chains. Demand for these products comes from a variety of industries, including wood processing, paper mills and fabric manufacturing, special purpose engineering, and motorcycle technology.
